Frankenfood 1, is a collaborative
mixed media work created by the artists team of Schneeveis and Schfinkman. Frankenfoods
was born as a way to do advocacy for a more reverant approach to food, environment,
and as it turns out, to life itself.
Artist and educator, David T. Ruiz
(a.k.a. Schfinkman), living in Chico, wanted to create a work of social relevance
for the community, especially the farming heritage. Together we have collaborated
on this mixed media work for the Chico Open Board Art (COBA) project, which is managed
by the Chico Art Center and funded by the city of Chico.
The resulting collaboration is entitled
"Frankenfood 1" (as we plan on creating a series based upon
the subject of genetically engineered food). It is currently on display as
part of a group show in downtown Chico, Ca., July 8- Aug 5.
Clicking on the images on the left
you wil witness the evolution of this project from start to finish.
The image was printed (Giclee') on
paper and mounted on a 4' by 4' Crezon board. Sealed with Varathane
and painted with an acrylic and Varathane mixture.
Click over to The Chico News and Review for mention of our work. Scroll down to where it says "Art and
Communication" and "Fooling Mother Nature." It also appears that
"Frankenfood 1" will be in next month's August Campus Notes
for the San Francisco Art institute website (and perhaps publication).
Artistic inspiration for Frankenfood
1 in part by French born installation artist Christian Boltanski.
Thanks to David Blitz, painter, printmaker, musician, Dj - all around sonic creative
force. Big influence on my choosing to remain immersed in this difficult field. Thanks
for keeping it fun D.
Thanks to friends Sung and Maya. Fellow artist Sung Kim pushes the paint accross
the canvas in the most relentless way. Sung was the one who told me the work was
good so I decided to keep going.
With any luck this series of work will generate debate encouraging the citizens of
Butte County and elsewhere to vote to BAN the planting of Monsanto's Roundup Ready
GMO crops.

Oh yes, I would be remiss if I did not mention San Jose State instructors Brian Taylor,
Robin Lasser and Ben Helprin for inspiration and training.
